National Australia Bank

Leveling up.

Cutting teeth at leading on design delivery at pace and scale.

Leading a large creative team of UX, UI and copywriters to design the entire end-to-end interactive experience for a new banking app. The brief; to disrupt the online banking market place, and make banking easy, enjoyable and put the customer in control. Working with several external agencies to ensure brand vigilance, a user-experience team to deliver usable prototypes, and a team of over 50 developers creating iOS and Android smartphone and tablet apps. Phew!

B’s brand and personality was created by an external, highly respected London agency. So it was in my interest to both integrate with this agency, as well as treat their creation with the upmost respect. We developed a mutual understanding for where their specialist skills stopped and mine started. Honestly, the whole time I was just learning a bunch from them and having a blast.

Launch.

In the end, we launched 4 apps, iOS tablet and phone, Android tablet and phone. And a web portal for good measure. It was a gargantuan mission to create it all simultaneously with a small team of mostly contractors whom the client wanted to use as the beginning of a design studio within the bank.

This meant navigating a lot of personalities and sometimes ego’s - across all the teams. But it also meant working with some super intelligent people and learning a lot from them. We launched to mediocre app store reviews, but could see that a lot of this came from stability issues.

I was so proud of seeing a product go live that was a true challenger in the marketplace. That would be a fully bonafide product experience for anyone to sign up, get a card and start banking. Exciting, terrifying and everything a designer lives for.
